Titanium is a very popular material in the eyewear industry, and it faces a very large consumer population. Pure titanium is especially suitable for people with high altitudes. Titanium frames have the advantages of light weight, high hardness, good corrosion resistance, good flexibility, strong electroplating, and will not rust or develop patina. Titanium metal is also widely used in aerospace, automobile manufacturing, medicine and other fields due to its own advantages.Titanium metal is difficult to process and production and processing are complex. Due to the hardness and low thermal conductivity of titanium metal, its welding performance is poor and it is easy to deform during the welding process. This requires a highly professional factory to produce titanium frames. .

Common titanium frames on the market are divided into two categories: pure titanium and titanium alloys. The familiar beta titanium is a type of titanium alloy. Today I will mainly share with you the difference between pure titanium and beta titanium.

Pure titanium: Only titanium metal with a purity of more than 99% can be called pure titanium. The advantages of pure titanium frames: light weight, strong electroplating layer, not easy to age and rust, anti-allergic, etc., especially suitable for people with high altitudes. Usually the frame is marked with Titanium character style. The disadvantage is that the styles are fewer than those of beta titanium, and the price is relatively higher. If you pay attention to preservation, a pair of pure titanium frames can last for several years. It is a very ideal metal frame material.

Beta titanium: The purity is slightly lower than that of pure titanium. The purity of beta titanium is around 75%-80%. It can be understood as titanium metal that has not been purified, with a small amount of chromium, alum, aluminum and other alloys added to it. . Advantages of beta titanium frames: improved strength, elasticity, fatigue resistance, etc. Beta titanium has higher plasticity and is widely used in frames that require higher elasticity, so there are more styles of frames available for consumption. The person chooses. Usually the frame is marked with the character pattern of β-titanium. The quality of titanium alloy frames on the market varies. If you don’t know how to choose, you can just blindly buy beta titanium.

There are generally three common methods to distinguish between pure titanium and beta titanium metal:

1. Nose bridge welding: The nose bridge of the titanium frame is made by oxygen-free welding, like a small step; while titanium alloy is made by spot welding, and the welded place is slope-shaped.

2. Temple screws and spacers: Open the temple opening and closing screws, and you can see two thin spacers. With the development and progress of modern frame technology, some titanium alloy frames can also be made very delicate, and some titanium brand frames have also chosen to cancel the gaskets, so this method is not suitable for distinguishing all titanium frames.

3. Look at the temple markings: Most optical frames will have frame information marked on the temples. Including the frame's mirror width, temple length, nose bridge width, material, etc. The temples of pure titanium frames are usually marked with the word Titanium, while beta titanium is marked with the words β-titanium. Consumers can most intuitively understand the material of the frame by observing the markings on the temples.
